The Bakken means business for companies in Billings.

Big Sky Economic Development is hosting two 2-day tours of the Bakken area. Flockin' to the Bakken 2.0 is set for June 14-15 and will visit the communities of Sidney and Williston. Bakken: The Montana Experience is set for July 10-11 and will visit the communities of Glendive and Sidney.

Both tours are designed to educate and inform members of the Billings business community on the economic impacts of developing the Bakken oil formation. Participants will also get a first-hand look at opportunities and challenges facing Montana as our state looks to further develop our natural resources. These tours will provide a variety of perspectives and panel discussions with industry leaders in the surrounding communities.

In June of 2011, Big Sky Economic Development hosted a trip called Flockin' to the Bakken and staff members were overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to attend the two day trip to Williston and Sidney. After that initial trip, Big Sky Economic Development surveyed the trip's attendees to understand where the organization could provide a positive impact both to businesses in Yellowstone County and to communities in Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota. The group of 45 identified additional needs for healthcare, transportation and several other areas of opportunity in the Bakken area and helped BSED staff create a program of work. The Williston Economic Development recently recognized Big Sky Economic Development and the City of Billings as a Community Partner of the Year for work in partnering with their city.

This year, each tour has room for up to 50 people and will again visit various sites. A tentative agenda for both tours can be found at www.bigskyeconomicdevelopment.org. Big Sky Economic

Development Corporation Member Investors receive discounted tour prices. Member Investor prices for either tour is $215 per person (single room option) or $165 per person based on double occupancy. Flockin' to the Bakken 2.0 is made possible by Crowley Fleck, Sanderson Stewart, Sanjel and Target Logistics. Bakken: The Montana experience is sponsored by Crowley Fleck and Sanderson Stewart.
