Barry Usher has sold Hi Mountain Recreation to its former manager, Chuck South.

Usher owned and operated the company in concert with Beartooth Harley Davidson. Usher retains Beartooth Harley Davidson at 6900 Frontage Road, Billings, along with locations in Red Lodge and Cody.

South is the managing partner of Hi Mountain Recreation, now located at 141 Moore Lane. The company is the dealer for SkiDoo, SeaDoo, CanAm, and General Scooter.

HI Mountain Sports was located in downtown Billings, prior to a fire that destroyed the store in 2006.

Noting that 2009 and 2010 were tough years for the recreational vehicle business, Usher said that sales picked up in 2011, and increased more in 2012 – though sales had still not reached its pre-recession peak.

As business increased and new models required more display room, Hi Mountain Recreation was in need of more space, said Usher. He said that he and South agreed the business would do better as an independent operation.

In 2004, Usher built a new 40,000 sq. foot building for Beartooth Harley Davidson, which was previously located on Monad Road.
