While nationally the unemployment rate inched closer to 10% in September, Montana’s unemployment rate fell. Montana’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.6% for August 2009 from 6.7% in July. The national unemployment rate increased to 9.7% from 9.4% during the same time period.
Montana’s seasonally-adjusted, non-agricultural payroll employment increased by 4,800 jobs (+1.1%) from July to August 2009. Total Government had the largest gains with 3,600 additional jobs (+4.0%). Education and Health Services also showed gains, adding 600 jobs (+0.9%) over the month.
