The City of Laurel plans to operate three buses providing daily (Monday-Friday) service between Laurel and Billings for commuters and daily “demand-response” service Monday-Friday for in-town residents, City Planner James Caniglia said.

The City will take delivery this week of a 10-passenger bus and a 15-passenger bus. The vehicles were purchased using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

One of the buses will be used to provide daily transportation from Laurel to Billings for people working 8-5 jobs in Billings. Caniglia estimates the fare will be $10-$15 per week for each rider on the (pool) van. “I hope we can fill the van quickly with riders needing to go back and forth for work,” he said. Caniglia plans to contact several major employers in Billings to attempt to secure regular riders.

“This is essentially a car pool,” Caniglia said. “It will be less expensive than driving back and forth between Laurel and Billings and downtown workers won’t have to worry about finding parking.”
