The Rimrock Auto Arena will be ready in time for its first scheduled event – the Women of Faith conference in early April. It will also be ready to host graduation exercises for area schools. The lobby area will not be done until late May, which is in keeping with the schedule set late last fall for the reconstruction of the arena, which was damaged in a tornado in June. County officials announced that a grand opening will take place in June -- one year from the day the tornado hit. Some of the electricians and painting crews have been working double shifts to keep things on schedule, said Scott Chartier, executive vice president of High Tech Construction. Chartier explained that they have discovered that the face of the cliff that abuts the arena at the northeast is crumbling and may need some reinforcing – and it may be too close to the arena wall to allow them to build out, to add one of four sets of new bathroom additions. They will be looking at costs and re-evaluating that portion of the plans for the second phase of refurbishing the arena.
