The American Farm Bureau Federation has strongly criticized a bill pushed by the Humane Society of the United States and the United Egg Producers to implement an agreement they reached to replace decades of science-based animal care practices with strict government control. The legislation, H.R. 3798, introduced by Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), would set a "dangerous" precedent by establishing federally mandated egg production practices and banning a number of other proven science-based egg production methods, according to AFBF President Bob Stallman
As part of President Obama's "Start-Up America Initiative" SBA is proposing a new program that intends to commit up to $1 billion in SBA guaranteed leverage over a five year period to selected early stage venture funds. This initiative is intended to promote American innovation and job creation by encouraging private sector investment in job-creating early stage small businesses.
Early stage small businesses face difficult challenges accessing capital, particularly those without the necessary assets or cash flow for traditional bank funding.

A resolution opposing United Nations Agenda 21 was recently unanimously passed by the Republican National Committee. Agenda 21 is considered by some to be “a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering and global political control.” It was initiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. Its tenants are incorporated in the International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), through local “sustainable development” policies such as Smart Growth, Wildlands Project, Resilient Cities, Regional Visioning Projects, and other “Green” or “Alternative” projects. It is viewed as anti-property rights by its adversaries and as a means of wealth redistribution by its proponents.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is seeking nominations for awards honoring the critical economic role small businesses play in federally funded research and development through SBA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.
Three awards will be given, one for companies that have participated in the SBIR/STTR programs, one for individuals who advocate on behalf of the programs, and a third "Hall of Fame" award recognizing companies that have an extended period of extraordinary success of research, innovation, and product commercialization within the SBIR or STTR program.

Total state government revenue increased to $2.0 trillion in 2010, up 79.0 percent from $1.1 trillion in 2009, resulting mainly from large increases in social insurance trust revenue, according to the latest findings from the U.S. Census Bureau. After a substantial loss in earnings in 2009, trust systems showed earnings of $450.5 billion in 2010, a gain of 218.2 percent over the year before.
Two major sources make up these trust systems: (1) employee retirement systems and (2) federal and state social insurance trust systems, which include the unemployment compensation system, state government worker’s compensation programs, Social Security, Medicare, veteran’s life insurance and railroad retirement.
A new federal grant from the Small Business Administration (SBA) is enabling the Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC) to provide financial assistance to Montana exporters.
The SBA awarded MDOC's Office of International Trade and Relations a one-year grant of $307,849 to provide financial assistance to qualified Montana small businesses for their promotional efforts in beginning to export or expanding exports into new markets.
The Montana International Marketing Assistance Grant program is a result of President Obama's current initiative to double U.S. exports by 2015 through the rural and small business sectors.
